Went to the local junk yard for some (semi) emergency Jag parts. While hunting down my prey, I saw some tail lights that I recognized but also triggered the “NOT NORMAL” bit in my brain. (I mean... the car one... the regular one is always on...)

Kinja'd!!!

Pretty proud of myself as I immediately thought “Is that a Lancer wagon?”

Yes, yes it was.

Kinja'd!!!

I spotted one in traffic a few years ago. Wonder if this is the same one?

Either way it had certainly seen better days.

Also got the part I came for. Turns out the Jag’s dome light being out wasn’t as simple as a dead bulb....

Kinja'd!!!

New one doesn’t have homelink, but I don’t think I care enough to swap the hardware over.

Edit: ARG! New overhead console came from a BROWN interior ed Jag, not a grey so the plastics don’t look right.  Looks like this isn’t going to be very straightforward...

I read a warning about using homelink on cars you generally park outside. A lot of people don’t lock their garage doors, so one easy point of entry to a house  is a smashed side window and a homelink button.

Cops put out a warning here a couple of years ago about programming “home” into your car GPS, for similar reasons. A t hief who  steals your car now has your address, garage door remote, and a vehicle which is not suspicious parked at your house while he fills it with your stuff.

I know a yellow Ralliart wagon is around here somewhere, haven’t seen it recently but it’s in perfect condition.

There are one or two contemporary Mirages around, none in good condition. Not many Lancers, which is somewhat strange. Definitely  no wagons. There are still a whole lot of Protege wagons around, most of them yellow.

None of my stuff is compatible with older homelink systems nor does the Jag have garage privileges .  I’ve heard of people doing fun things with wireless relays and homelink though...

Can you pop out the electronics and put it in the other housing?

In progress. Stupid thing is assembled with plastic rivets so the swap has not been straightforward. Deserves its own post once completed .

or you could plasti-spray it the proper shade of grey, most automotive plastics take plastic paint very well (just remove or mask the buttons first!)

To an untrained eye those taillights look like something off a Volvo wagon...

And by untrained eyes I mean my eyes.
